Tata says the homes will be sold to those living in village areas and could also be sold to councils in bulk that are looking to build up areas. Mr Das also said the company was bouncing ideas off local councils to develop the most suitable style homes.

The houses are said to have a life expectancy of around 20 years.
Tata is also developing a larger 30 square metre home with optional extras, such as a front verandah and a solar energy system. Head of the house project at Tata, Sumitesh Das, recently said at the announcement, “We have already prepared two to three different designs based on discussions with users and are gathering more feedback. Hopefully, in the next six to eight months we should be able to roll it out in the market nationally.”

Socl.com, which was discovered on Thursday, first displayed a welcoming message announcing a new social networking offering called “Tulalip”, which read: “With Tulalip you can find what you need and share what you know easier than ever.” Tulalip is the name of an Indian tribe in Washington. Fake login buttons for Facebook and Twitter appeared on the upper right hand side of the socl.com landing page.

Microsoft’s social networking teaser is gone for now.  When clicking on the socl.com website a message is displayed from Microsoft explaining: “Thanks for stopping by. Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the web. We didn’t mean to, honest.”

If you woke up this morning thinking, there just aren’t enough social networking sites to choose from, you’re in luck, because this week a home page for what seems to be a social networking site for Microsoft was found, prompting industry observers to speculate it is getting ready to launch a better social networking offering than Google+.

Nithyananda lodges plaint against Sun Group

CHENNAI:  Members of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, the ashram run by tainted godman Nithyananda, handed over a complaint to the Commissioner of Police in the city on Wednesday, alleging they had been threatened, assaulted and money had been extorted from them by persons related to the media houses that brought out the video allegedly showing their leader being intimate with actress Ranjitha.

The complaint was filed by Nithyathmaprabhananda, the manager of Nithyananda’s ashram. It identified Lenin and Aarthi Rao as the persons who produced the obscene video and also accused the duo of blackmailing, threatening and extorting money from representatives of the ashram.The complaint notes that ashram representatives had been held hostage and beaten up till they coughed up close to Rs 40 lakh. It also names an advocate Sridhar, an individual named Kumar, Nakkeeran Gopal and Kamaraj of the Nakkeeran group of publications, Sun Network COO Hansraj Saxena and his aide Iyappan as among others who threatened and ordered assaults on representatives of the ashram.“We didn’t give the complaint earlier because the situation was not conducive. We have been threatened, harassed and assaulted. We request the government to take stringent action against these people,” said Nithyananda, reflecting the words of actress Ranjitha from a day earlier.His complaint also included a recording of a phone conversation with Sridhar threatening the ashram representatives to pay up or have the obscene video published and broadcast.The complaint carries a detailed account of the negotiation process between ashram representatives, initially with Sridhar and subsequently with Nakkeeran Gopal, Kamaraj and Iyappan.Source:http://expressbuzz.com/cities/chennai/nithyananda-lodges-plaint-against-sun-group/293954.html

Mumbai University becomes movie set after 18 years

Mumbai University opened its gates to Bollywood after a gap of 18 years for “Ferrari Ki Sawaari”, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, whose 1994 movie “1942 A Love Story” is said to be the last film to be shot at the heritage building.

According to sources in the production unit of the film, university officials agreed to grant permission to film at the magnificent university building, built in 1857, after thoroughly scrutinising the scene.

The shot, which director Rajesh Mapuskar wanted to can there, involved a sequence of a school children choir.

“It was like a dream come true to get a chance to shoot at the university campus and capturing the true essence of the heritage after so many years,” Mapuskar said in a statement.

The film, about a young boy who wants to play cricket at Lords in England, features Sharman Joshi and Deepika Padukone. Mapuskar says it was a delight working on the sets.

Om Puri Says, I am not Amitabh Bachchan, Scripts for Veteran actors, Like Bbuddha Hoga, Should Come

Since Puri himself agrees that he'll be in a serious avatar after a long time, we wonder what kept him away from his forte for all these years? Puri responded, "It was not a deliberate attempt. It's just that these days, filmmakers offer me only comedy roles. But I don't think it's the fault of filmmakers either. For, it's the viewers who are at fault. It's because of them that very few movies have scope for serious roles and as result, filmmakers are left with no option but to toe the line." 

But what really angers Puri is a lack of lead roles for actors his age. He rued, "Actually in Bollywood, filmmakers don't believe in designing films while keeping the age of actors in mind. It isn't like that in Hollywood. Filmmakers there have roles even for older actors and they believe in utilizing the skills of veteran actors," he says. 

Then, what did he have to say about Big B going strong even now, especially with a film like "Bbuddha Hoga Tera Baap" still attracting viewers? "Frankly speaking, I am not Amitabh Bachchan," shrugs Puri, while pointing out, "I feel that I am no less skilled in acting than Amitabh, but the problem is that mere baap producer nahi hain." 

Is that the case with Amitabh Bachchan, we ask, only partly in jest. And he shoots back, "Par woh industry ke baap hain. After all he is a megastar and producers love offering him roles that suit his age."
Be it his serious turn in films like "Mirch Masala" and "Dharavi", or playing comic roles in "Singh Is Kinng" and "Mere Baap Pehle Aap", Puri has showcased various facets of his acting skills, and in the bargain has gained an equal number of fans in India and abroad. Interestingly, Puri, who was in Kanpur recently, says he will again be seen in a serious role in his next film based on honour killings, after a long time.

Talking about the role, Puri says, "Yes, after a long gap I would be seen in a serious role. I am doing a film named "Khap", which is based on honour killing. I am playing the sarpanch in this film who strongly believes in the Khap system. But finally his attitude changes because of the twists and turns in his own life," Apart from this film, Puri says that he will also be seen in "Don 2" and "Agneepath".

IIT Kgp, IIT Kharagpur, Contract Breach, IIT-Kgp, Misappropriation of Technology, MA Mobile

The case against IIT-Kharagpur and its affiliate TechnologyIncubation and Entrepreneurship Training Society (TIETS) for misappropriation of technology of a US firm in the Northern DistrictCourt of California has taken a serious turn.

Recently, the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) described the technology as “valuable and novel” even before IIT-Kgp had access to it. What could further complicate matters for IIT-Kgp is the fact that the US court has refused to grant it sovereign immunity (given to countries).

IIT-Kgp is said to have breached the contract it signed in 2003 with entrepreneur Mandana D Farhang and her affiliate MA Mobile Limited by allegedly passing to others the technology relating to a new platform for mobile computing.

Sanjiv N Singh, co-lead counsel for plaintiffs Farhang and MA Mobile, told TOI from the US, “IIT-Kharagpur should be very worried about the Farhang case. The recent authorization by USPTO of a patent describing Farhang’s mobile technology and confirming that the technology in question is valuable and novel — and was valuable and novel as of the year 2000, long before IIT-Kgp even had access to it as a trade secret — confirms that the Farhang case will be a winner and will very likely result in a significant verdict for our client. Moreover, the case has been approved to proceed and IIT-Kgp must remain in it as a defendant, despite attempts by it to have itself dismissed from the case.”

IIT-Kgp registrar T K Ghosal did not reply to a detailed questionnaire. He told TOI that the “matter is subjudice and the institute would not like to comment”.

In the complaint, Farhang’s lawyers have made Partha P Chakrabarti, dean, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, IIT-Kgp, IIT professors Pallab Dasgupta, Rakesh Gupta, Pravanjan Choudhry, Subrat Panda and Animesh Naskar party to the case by alleging wrongful conduct. Singh said, “There is compelling evidence that agents of IIT-Kgp, operating under the direction of and in coordination with Partha Chakrabarti, appear to have misappropriated a US-based company’s technology for their own benefit and for dissemination to third parties including IBM and the Indian Railways.”
