England off-spinner Graeme Swann has become the number-one ranked bowler in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers for the first time in his career after the 32-year-old claimed series figures of 8-164 against Sri Lanka.

England claimed victory in the fifth and final ODI of the series and by virtue of winning the enthralling series 3-2 has pushed Sri Lanka from third to fourth in the Reliance ICC ODI Championship. Sri Lanka has slipped below South Africa by a fraction of a ratings point while England has maintained its position in fifth.

In the bowler rankings, Swann’s ascension to the number-one spot has meant New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori has finally been knocked off the top, a place the former Black Caps skipper had occupied since September 2009.

Swann’s team-mate James Anderson has also risen impressively up the rankings, gaining 17 places to 11th spot, while Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis has dropped three places to 12th. Stuart Broad’s disappointing series with the ball has seen the 25-year-old slide eight places to 21st position.

A positive series for England’s Tim Bresnan, who claimed eight wickets, has seen the 26-year-old seamer jump nine places to 26th in the world.

The announcement last month that salaried taxpayers with a taxable income of up to 5 lakh need not file their tax returns has come as a relief for this Ghaziabad-based engineering lecturer. "I don't need to file my tax return this year," he says. Jain's salary is roughly 3.6 lakh a year, well below the 5 lakh cut-off set by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in its June 24 notification. Ashwani Jain is feeling as if a load has been lifted off his shoulders.

Like scores of other taxpayers across the country, Jain is making a mistake. He has not taken into account his other sources of income, including the interest earned on fixed deposits and NSCs. If he has an income from these or any other source, it's mandatory for him to file his tax return. Besides, the 3.5% earned on the balance in his savings bank account should be mentioned in his Form 16 and the tax on it should have been paid. There could be a 5,000 penalty waiting for him if he doesn't file his tax return.

Kailash Kher, who was in Kolkata last week for a performance at the Netaji Indore Stadium, said he feels connected to the city. "Jab log baatein karte hain, lagta hai ki woh mithai baat rahein ho," he said.

Andhra Pradesh (DLN): Andhra Pradesh Department of Technical Education has issued revised schedule for CEEP 2011 exercising options. Candidates from Rank 1 to 50000 of Telangana Districts, who could not exercise their options, are informed to exercise their options on 7-8 July 2011.

It is informed that Certificate Verification scheduled on 5-6 July 2011 for candidates attending at Help Line Centres of Telangana Districts only has been changed.

Candidates from Rank No. 60001 to 85000 have to attend on 10th July 2011 and candidates from Rank No. 85001 to 110000 have to attend on 11th July 2011. All these candidates have to exercise their options on 11-12 July 2011. No change is made in schedule for all other candidates. All candidates can change their options if so desired on 13th July 2011.

A village in northern India has changed its name from that of a god to SnapDeal.com Nagar. The tiny town had good reason to, because SnapDeal, India’s version of Groupon, provided it with fresh water.

SnapDeal’s founder Kunal Bahl wanted to do something good with his company’s burgeoning profits, so likeBill Gates and his philanthropic efforts, the 28-year-old CEO looked for an opportunity where he could have the most bang for the buck.

His answer? Water. He found out that a mere $5,000 would install 15 hand pumps that would make it so the villagers wouldn’t have to walk nearly two miles just to get clean water. The result was life-changing, Bahl told CNN.
