Bangalore: Finally, the long wait ended on Thursday. Students started lapping up government quota engineering seats as the Common Entrance Test (CET) counselling had a nail-biting start at seven centres across the state.

Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), that conducts the test and seat selection sessions, has declared 73,168 students eligible for engineering seats this year. On Thursday — the first day of counselling — CET candidates who have secured ranks from 1 to 1,600 were called for seat selection under the general merit category.

Note that the total number of engineering seats available to CET candidates is 47,697 in 188 colleges. This year, 83,489 engineering seats are available in the state in total.

KEA said all engineering seats in the Electronics and Communications stream that were available for CET students under the general merit category were taken on Thursday.

Initially, the engineering counselling was scheduled to begin on June 27, but the state government was forced to postpone it by 10 days to Thursday, as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) delayed sending approvals for engineering courses. State higher education minister VS Acharya visited the KEA cell in Malleswaram in the morning when the counselling kicked off and addressed the session.

“The Bill is a welcome move. All that we had lent in AP is more or less in the form of working capital. Unless we lend more, we will not be able to recover the funds that were already lent,” Dilli Raj, SKS’s chief financial officer, toldDNA.

According to him, the company was not able to recover the loans in AP since it was not disbursing fresh loans. “According to the state government regulations, we need to take prior approvals for every loan application before disbursing the loan. We had filed about 75,000 applications with the authorities in AP alone for approvals.

But whatever date it is, the fact is that Maruti has started clearing the old stocks to make way for the new model of Swift 2011.

Maruti has already lost some of its sales to its competitors by delaying the launch of new Swift as new Swift could have got more buyers off from the competing cars in favour of the new Swift. With the new Swift Maruti may clock even more sales of already popular Maruti Swift. We just hope that Maruti will reveal some official launch date to clear the clouds of doubt from the mind of buyers and help them make an informed decision in time

GTU, GTU Admissions Postponed, GTU Admissions, GTU MBA MCA Courses, MBA and MCA Admissions

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Technological University(GTU) has postponed the dates for admission to Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA) courses. The admission process for these courses which were scheduled to begin from July 8 has been postponed to July 18. The process has been postponed as the results of examinations for the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) students conducted last year in various universities in the state has not been declared yet.

The eligibility for admission to MBA and MCA programmes are based on the marks scored by students in the GujCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test) examination. However, the admission process has been postponed as students whose average score in their BE final examination are less than 50 percent are not eligible for MBA and MCA courses. An official at GTU said, "If it turns out that any student has failed or scored less than 50 percent in their engineering examinations, then their admissions will have to be cancelled . It will be a long process and create chaos. So the best idea was to postpone the admissions till the BE results are declared." The BE results are expected to be declared in around a week.

Harbhajan Singh, who joined the Indian cricket team for the Three match Test series against the West Indies, needed seven at the start of the series and two wickets to reach the landmark at the start of this match.

The off-spinner has bagged 5 ten-wicket hauls and 25 five-wicket hauls in his test career.

Harbhajan also said that he is now aiming for the 500 wickets landmark and will surely cross the former Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan's 800 wickets record.

Harbhajan said, "It was important at that point in time. He (Baugh) was batting really well and it was good to break that partnership in the context of the game,". The veteran also said that, "Baugh was probably the best batsman and he was attacking all the bowlers and taking the game away from us. It was nice to get him out and get my 400th wicket."
